Introducing Elevating Excellence:
The Campaign for Bullis

Bullis Lower School students
A Campaign for All of Bullis

Transformational for Generations

Bullis has a storied history, and at every stage of our evolution since 1930, we have always put students at the center of what we do.

Nearly a century after our founding, we are launching Elevating Excellence: The Campaign for Bullis.

The success of this campaign will ensure our ability to provide the most transformative learning opportunities possible for our students and raise the profile of Bullis, benefiting past, present, and future students.

Our Vision

As Bullis continues to emerge as a leader in independent education—not just regionally, but nationally—this campaign is critical in continuing to raise the stature of our school and in increasing the value of the Bullis diploma.

The enhancement of our campus will reinforce the type of learning environment that fosters connectedness and community, and elevate the Bullis profile to benefit generations of students and alumni.

When we are connected, invested, and engaged the entire Bullis community benefits.

Benefits Across

All Divisions

We have reached maximum capacity in our current facilities, leading to the sub-optimal flow of students around campus throughout the day–continued over time. Enhancing the Bullis campus will best serve our students by offering exceptional programming in intentionally designed and specifically designated learning spaces.

Elevating Excellence: The Campaign for Bullis will transform the campus by creating dedicated learning spaces for each division, allowing students and faculty to create critical connections, and enhancing the Bullis academic experience for everyone.

Lower School
A new Lower School building will double the size of the current K-5 space and be specifically designed to meet the needs of our youngest students. Each grade level will have its own classrooms as well as developmentally appropriate common spaces. They will have access to science and outdoor learning spaces, as well as a paved play area, playground, and practice field designed especially for them. The carefully considered indoor and outdoor spaces will foster exploration led by student curiosity.

Middle School
A renovated South Hall will serve as the home base for the entire Middle School. Middle School administration will be centrally located and the majority of Middle School classes will be held within the building. Additionally, Middle School will inherit what is currently the Lower School portion of the Marriott Family Library. They will also have a designated Middle School makerspace in the Discovery Center with access to the adjacent outdoor classroom.
Upper School
With Lower School and Middle School classes in centralized locations, Upper School will regain valuable space in the Marriott Family Library, Blair Family Center for the Arts, and Discovery Center. Newly reclaimed classrooms could be used for a variety of purposes including recording studios, expanded arts spaces, and classrooms for all academic disciplines. Science and math courses that have been displaced and are currently taught in North Hall will move back to the Discovery Center—allowing both departments to continue to grow and North Hall to be renovated. Additionally, study and community spaces in the Discovery Center will become more readily available to upper schoolers, helping to reshape the culture of the building to be a true gathering space for learning and community building.

New Lower School

Lower schoolers will have a state-of-the-art building designed to maximize their learning—a space they can truly call their own. Fly through the new Lower School building and see the intentionally designed spaces where Bullis’ youngest learners will learn and grow.

The new building will be a modern, light-filled, environmentally friendly beacon of elementary education and features spacious homerooms; a Lower School library; a makerspace; cutting-edge movement, art, music, and science classrooms; space for math and reading specialists; outdoor learning areas; a counselor’s office; a nurse’s office; an administrative suite; and more.

When it’s time for recess, a turf field, two sports courts, and a playground will be hubs for play and community building.

Every space, indoor and outdoor, has been designed to maximize learning and social-emotional wellness. And thanks to the building’s central location, they will be able to convene with older students for cross-divisional learning and community-building activities.

South Hall renovations

Bullis School South Hall

South Hall will be renovated, including the addition of a science lab, and will serve as the home base for the entire Middle School. They will also have a dedicated space in the Marriott Family Library and a makerspace in the Discovery Center.

North Hall renovations

North Hall will receive design upgrades and necessary improvements to best serve the students and faculty who use the space. Bathrooms, windows, roofing, plumbing, and more will be updated.

Loop Road

The new loop road is a separate yet necessary campus project to accommodate the growth of our school. This new road will increase our capacity for vehicle stacking on interior roads during drop-off and pick-up times and alleviate traffic congestion along public roads.

Discovery Center

Bullis Discovery Center

The Campaign will free up additional learning spaces for Upper School students in the Discovery Center.

  • All Upper School science classes currently taught in North Hall to move to the Discovery Center.
  • All math classrooms will be in the Discovery Center, allowing the math department to continue to grow.
  • Study and community spaces in the Discovery Center will become available to Upper Schoolers, helping to reshape the culture of the building to be a true communal gathering space.

Elevating Excellence

Campaign Goals

Elevating Excellence is a carefully considered, ambitious step in the advancement of Bullis School that will allow us to continue moving forward at the vanguard of K-12 independent education. The goal we have set—$20 million—is ambitious, and we believe strongly that our community is ready for the challenge.

Contributions to Elevating Excellence will help us:

Thanks to our incredibly engaged parents, alumni families, close friends, and institutional stakeholders, Bullis is primed to emerge as one of the preeminent schools in the nation. Now, we are turning to our community to help Bullis reach its full potential. Elevating Excellence: The Campaign for Bullis is critical to the achievement of these goals.
